Official Brazilian Seal of the Barcelona Olympic Games

Created by José Manoel Sellmer, the stamp was chosen in Brazil as the winning design. Promoted in 9 countries, the International Stamp Art Contest aimed to elect the stamp that would best represent each nation in the Barcelona games. After the verification of more than 500 works presented, the 10 best projects were selected by the Brazilian Olympic Committee, with the first place being the seal designed by José Sellmer, who was chosen as the Official Brazilian Seal of the Barcelona Olympic Games. With the theme “The Olympic Games as a Union among the Peoples”, the stamp presents the terrestrial globe where the continents are formed by an irregular outline, giving a sense of movement to the drawing. This sense gains greater intensity by the succession of sports that, one after the other, circumvent the terrestrial globe. In turn, the Olympic circle that surrounds the world exemplifies the idea of sport as a union between peoples. Blue, yellow and green, three colors that stand out on the stamp, highlight the Brazilian presence at the Barcelona Olympic Games in 1992.
